Myokinetics can be utilized in many ways, to optimize ‘stretch’ programs, such as Pilates and Yoga, rehabilitation programs for people suffering from chronic conditions such as osteo-arthritis, fibromyalgia, and post injury muscular trauma.

This particular  program has been adapted with disability or restricted movement in mind. The exercises are mainly performed from a chair but are equally as effective as ‘standing’ exercises, or floorwork. The only difference being that working from a seated position provides a stable base for those with balance difficulties.

It also takes into consideration that many people with disabilities find it difficult to position themselves on the floor, in order to exercise! If the hands are disabled to the point where a towel cannot be 'gripped', a stretch-strap is used, allowing the hand to slip through a loop, and the wrist to take the gentle pressure.

The objective of 'Myokinetics from a Chair' is to increase suppleness and tonicity of the muscles, thereby reducing stiffness and discomfort. These exercises will help to release ‘locked’ joints, and increase freedom of movement, in a relaxed and safe environment.

My mission is to open the possibilities of this work to as many teachers as possible and for them to make this work 'their own'. Also, to give insight to therapists as to how they can make their treatments even more effective.

With love and light....
Vivienne
